nadia ali recap

  • My friend was having trouble scalping his extra ticket at the Nadia Ali concert because it was a singleton. I thought he should buy another one off someone else, and then sell the pair.

As it turns out, right in front of the bouncer is a bad place to scalp a ticket. But he was cool about it and said, "Dude, don't do that in front of me."

  • I hate when they just take the whole ticket, because like to keep ticket stubs as a souvenir. But I guess I could just print it out again.

  • Whenever I go to Ruby Skye, I think to myself, "You know what's cooler than a million dollars? A billion dollars."

  • I noticed that at the Nadia Ali concert, the demographics of the audience is slightly different than usual.

In addition to people of Nadia Ali's ethnicity were a bunch of random brown people who, apparently, couldn't tell the difference between different kinds of brown people. Also, there were a lot of creepy old dudes.

Nadia Ali should have a song Sikh Bromance--is that the right kind of brown?

  • There was a older (maybe 55) Chinese guy there who didn't speak English, and though he could get in by bribing the doorman twenty bucks. I'm not sure which part of that was the weirdest.

  • I should bring a periscope to concerts.

  • The funny thing about Nadia Ali is she has a way cuter speaking voice than singing voice.

Also, the only non-singing stuff that Nadia Ali said was periodically yelling, "San Francisco!" which was nice, but also a little bit cheap. We all cheered anyway.

Actually, it was kind of weird that she kept yelling, "San Francisco!" because I think most people who go to Ruby Skye are actually from, like, Sunnyvale. She should have yelled, "Greater San Francisco Area!"

  • When people at shows just stand there video-recording it on their smartphones, I kind of just want to hit their phone out of their hands. But I guess it's in my self-interest to let them, so I can watch the show on YouTube later.

  • If you're just going to make out with a chick at a show, move away from the stage, so other people can see better.

  • There was an intermission in the show, which I assume that meant that Nadia Ali had to drop a deuce.

  • Nadia Ali had a costume change, but maybe that was just her first dress inside-out.

  • The way Nadia Ali arranged her show, it reeked a little bit of one-hit wonder.

  • When I see the crowd at Ruby Skye, I assume that most people are rolling, but I guess there are some people who just like to dance like an asshole, even while sober.

A lot of people in San Francisco apparently think just jumping up and down counts as "dancing."

  • Even the go-go dancers at Ruby Skye are Asian.

  • The problem with Ruby Skye is that last call is (by law) far earlier than the place closes, so they have custodians clean up while people are still trying to, uh, get down.

  • There was one girl in a hajib that blew my mind because, while I know this is Nadia Ali, I guess I sort of assumed that you people hate to dance.
I have a complimentary subsciption to Opera News because I signed up for a free San Francisco opera event. But really, you should save these for people who pay actual money for opera.
